Christmas Is Not Always a Happy Period of Time for People
By the end of the victorian eara, you may well have your children with you. So it is an era where christmas as a concept that can be attached to things, really just explodes. And also where some of the foods that previously were associated more widely with the season, such as turkey, become almost exclusive to Christmases. But there are many pople who are on their own or who have horrible domestic lives, and for whom christ Christmas is a period of real dread actually.
