McEwen's work was the purest expression of how he actually felt about his life and the world. He found an awful lot of loneliness and abandonment in his afterlife in a way. I had this grudging respect in the end for a guy who could make art that reflected his innermost fears and passions can connect to an enormous audience, says McEwen.
