The monarchy is there on sufferance. It's not there from God, it's basically there because of people tolerate it. Parliament says that actually doesn't matter where you are in the line of succession. If you're of the wrong religion, in this case, Catholic, then we as parliament can say that you forfeit the crown. And we're going to give it to this guy who 50 places down the royal succession becomes George 1.
