I love the idea that Mary has always been a librarian. She doesn't have a lot to say but she has a lot to see. And I think that was a lovely device for me to work with within the context of the film. Judy plays it magnificently, although the role is initially small. You never doubt that Judy is absolutely central to the story. Just a small raise of an eyebrow and it can make and save volumes. We heard Jennifer Saunders. So her role, she's comical. She's serious. The writer belongs in liminal space. You should be watching. Observe as a very potent individual.
