The Mamluk Empire

In 1250 the Ayubid dynasty is overthrown by a group of warriors in its army. They are basically enslaved people who are then transformed into elite warriors. And so they do this in such quantities that these Mamluks, various Mamluk regiments realize that they actually have more than enough power to overthrow the Ayubids themselves. These are the origins of the Mamluk Empire which ultimately will last until it's overthrown by the Ottomans in 1517.
