The Conflict Between AI and Creativity

Can AI even be creative or is it just chewing what was previously said and spitting it out in a new form? Or is creativity perhaps prompt engineering the fact of being able to make the system output creative? So we have, I think, at root a clash between two views, which have existed for at least as long as mechanical reproduction has been an issue. We can't reconcile these because they both exist, so from the perspective of the audience, we live in a world where there can be much appreciation of art that is generated by machine means or human machine means.
