Last week, officials in Gabon suspended access to social media platforms indefinitely. To justify the suspension, the country’s telecommunications agency said it observed “content that undermines human dignity, the country’s institutions, and national security” on digital platforms, but independent voices condemned the action as an obvious crackdown on dissent.
