The Importance of Matilda
In dynastic terms yes she's very much the least important and it did look for quite a while as though any potential struggle over the English throne was going to be an all-male affair. Of course Henry I had other plans for her. He manages to or actually he's approached by someone incredibly important and prestigious for the English crown. Yes this was the Emperor Henry V another Henry who was the the Emperor of what we now call it the Holy Roman Empire but at the time it was just kind of known as the Empire.
