The Decline of the Crusader States
Jerusalem fell in 1187 to Saladin's armies following the battle of Hateen. The Pope is said to have died from the shock of the news. Next pope made it his first priority to arrange a massive crusade. Third crusade led by people like the Second of France, England and Germany. There was always a fear among the crusading army that whilst they could probably take the city, they couldn't hold it in the long term.
