The Privilege of Growing Up in a Rural South
I grew up in a tiny, poor, rural southern town where literally everybody you meet is a Baptist. I learned how religious texts are often inconsistent and self-conflicting because they were written by lots of different authors across totally different centuries. And that learning was a privilege or an unearned advantage that I had over other people. Maybe it's reasonable to expect that people who come up in such a world are going to need a little more time to get hip to social change.
