Chamberlain had an inkling when he died of how bad his reputation would be over the following half century. He thought quite a long time, after the norway debate, that he would come back and replace churchill. But by the end, i think he knew very well what his place in history was going to be. On it, carved by his instruction, are the words from a poem, mark me down as a man who loved his fellow men.
