flemish politics was a thing before 19 70, in so far as belgian politicians had to get votes in flanders. That completely changed in the 19 seventyes d 19 eighties. In the 19 nineties, when regionlization takes another qualitative jump, you finally have the creation of what you could call a distinctly flemish state. And that means you have this constant bargaining process on different levels.
