The Role of Cox2 Inhibitors in Osteolysis
Debris triggers activation of macrophages which secrete many cytokines and inflammatory mediators, including TNF alpha, IL1, IL6 and prostaglannins. The resulting inflammatory cascade ultimately promotes osteoclastic bone resorption and fibrous tissue formation. Bisposphonase incorporate into bone and prevent osteoclastic resorption. Growth factors such as TGF- and BMP2 promote osteoblastic bone ingrowth into implant porosities to enhance stability.
