Edward Brooke Hitching's new book The Mad Man's Gallery introduces readers to some of the strangest creations in art history. It includes a painting made with pigment coloured by mummified remains and family portraits created by an algorithm. Why did you want to write a book bringing together all of these artistic oddities? I've always loved generally about histories using objects, taking objects that are curiosities and using them as just these little doorways into pockets of history," he says.
