Is Facebook a Weapon of the Information War?

This war has highlighted the necessity and power of the information war. I know propaganda campaigns fought over platforms like facebook and twitter. How have you seen social media weaponized over the course of this conflict? Due primarily to the the black out and the fact that for the first four months, journalists and aid workers were barred from accessing the region.
