The Age of Discovery
The age of discovery gave rise to a triumphanous narra about the rise of the west. The portuguese were trying to get rid of the otdoman musle middle man in trade of the day. They sailed around africa, and the reason that columbus sailed west, was to avoid the ottoman empire. And so sothi often forgotten about the story. It's not just that, it's not that the portuguese Were more curious than anyone else. It's that they were trying to find a route to south asia which would give them direct access to the spice trade.
