Past Perfect or Past Simple?
Listen to the sentences, try to identify if it's past simple or past perfect. And then try think about the differences. When pete arrived at the party, we'd drunk all the wine. Now you can hear that, it's drunk. It doesn't sound like past perfect, but the first one was past perfect. In quick speech, it'll be 'we had drunk all the Wine', which is difficult to hear.
