Is Religion a Form of Initiation?
Human beings can genuinely find meaning or inspiration in some form of initiation, especially when it's framed as one that brings people into a more virtuous life. I've often wondered if we could have like, religion without a religion. As the world grows more secular, like i do, feel it leaves a bit of a vacuum where you used to have this communalexperience of discussing virtue and contemplating wrong ways of living. You know? Is that like a nice pantasy to imagine that lying by the ritual itself is an act of initiation?
