In the 19 thirties, you've got a situation where the politics is becoming more tos in british society anywey. You've got people inside the b b c who really believe that the job of the bb c is to examine what's happening in society. At the same time, an administrative class are deeply anxious about er, the national broadcaster, stirring things up unnecessarily. And and you can see a b b c that is, in many ways, face indifferent directions. It's increasingly cautious, and its increasingly conservative in its judgments about the kind of programms it should make.
