Google penalizes your site with the algorithm and they don't let you know in any way other than the fact that your web traffic just disappeared from the search engine. Is there any recovery or is it the black hole of death? It absolutely depends. If it's you've just messed up a little bit, then yeah, you can recover. I'm not necessarily quickly. Some sites will recover quickly. But some sites can take a year, which can be completely destroyed business in that year's time if they're too dependent on Google.
