I work with eastern european and asian quite a bit. Even they feel like, oh, i'm being abrasive, im b insubordinate. It really is a shift mentality. I worked with a russian woman who said she felt like she was being excluded from office culture. And so in her intonation, she would kind of start mid range and then hunger down, so it soundd rather flat. So we worked on raising her pitch and incorporating a greater range of intonation. That itself made her face more expressive. She wasn't why, but probably some people felt intimidated by her. You never want to jostle some one's sense of identity
