Target mean encoding is an advanced data prep technique. It can be used to transform categorical input into its actual target mean. You use the transformed variable as opposed to the original variable, and it tends to work better than one hot encoding. And also you can use it in pretty much any algorithm, including algorithms that only take numerical inputs like XGBoose.
