Is There a Way to Deinstitutionalize State Hospitals?
As Medicare and Medicaid shifts some of the funding models, which is happening a couple of decades into the long arc of closing these large state hospitals and asylum, it part of like what affects this. And so they become places to try and like pull funds in order to fund other thingslike where there's a lot of the budget of the state going into these institutions. But at the same time, I think one of the things that we've just sort of been talking about is the fact that this system is sort of constantly exposing its contradictions. It provides a very welcome counterweight to these stories of economic renaissance in former fortresses of industrial capitalism.
