Some of the kind of therapeutic experiments that were conducted in the humanistic psychology sort of self actualization movement of the 60s and 70s and into the 80s, think of Werner Erhart. Much of that was, it was the tyrant super ego manifest in this kind of very performative way. And I realized that the discipline that well meaning and aspirational yoga enthusiasts were gravitating towards to open themselves up is also an echo of a form of bodily discipline that could include corporal punishment. We see the same thing with with Joseph Pilates and his manipulation of clients.
