Barbie is an image of womanhood and what it means to be a woman at any time in history. Ruth Handler just couldn't get her design team to make the doll she had in mind. She kept saying, I want an adult doll. Mothers will never buy a doll with breasts. Her changing of the culture really had more to do with how women are viewed in the culture.
