The Role of External Fixation in the Management of Distal Radius Fractures
external fixation can be indicated for open fractures, highly common-ooded fractures, and in medically unstable patients unable to undergo a lengthy procedure. Note that there is no significant benefit of physical therapy over home exercises for simple distal radius fractures treated with cast immobilization. You should also be aware of the Lefontane protectors of instability where radial shortening is the most predictive of instability.
