What Are Leading Economic Indicators Telling You?
The Fed is by nature focused on lagging economic data, inflation being one and unemployment being another. Unfortunately, those two things are really the last shoe to drop in an economic slowdown. That's why we're focusing on the leading data - ISM new orders component of the PMI indices. So really what that suggests is it tells us about how strong demand is for manufacturing firms.
