Two mass graves found in weymouth and oxford could shed light on the event. Could be scandinavian raiding group that's been caught and killed as a result. Later legend suggests swain fortbeard then returns shortly thereafter because his sister had been killed was one of these danes. But those stories emerge very late, they're quite romantic. Theye may have been trying to explain why swain reappears.
