Is There a True Sense of Optimism?
At the beginning of the decade, there was an enormous amount of anxiety. By the mid twenties, when the boom was oftand running, yes, there was definitely a widespread sense of optimism. And you get and a really kind of gingoistic sertanly in america, gingoistic optimism. It's what you see as at the 19 twenties was a time of tremendous social upheaval and of tremendous change. Some people will greet that with optimism; some people will greet it with horror and dismay.
