The Ship's Mystery
The Hispaniola set sail for the Isle of Treasure. The ship proved to be a good ship, and the crew were capable seamen. But two or three things had happened which required to be known. Mr Arrow turned out even worse than the captain had feared. Joe Anderson was the likeliest man aboard; though he kept his old title he served in a way as mate. Israel Hands was a careful, wily old, experienced seaman who could be trusted at a pinch with almost anything. Barbecue carried his crutch by a lanyard around his neck, to have both hands as free as possible.
