Holiday shopping chaos in town centres

Christmas is here and main streets across the country are flooded with those who have decided tactically or stupidly to leave their present buying to the last minute. 

But, for the droves who line the shopfronts today and tomorrow, what exactly should they be looking for? Is it too late to pick up something good?
