Durham Cathedral, a Vast, Kind of Norman Fortress
Durham cathedral was built by william the conqueror when he came to power. He saw religion as something that could buttress his authority in that sense. The tomb of saint cuthbert, who was the abbot of lindesvan a couple of centuries earlier is there. It's one of the first places vikings raid after they come to Lindesvan - and it floods twice a day.
