John Scopes was charged with teaching evolution under a recently passed law in Tennessee. The city of Dayton arranged this trial to showcase their community, but it turned into an embarrassment for many years. It was the first trial ever broadcast live on radio; every minute of the trial was broadcast by Chicago's WGN.
