There's this at the beginning of the 20th century, especially this guy Ronald Fisher develops what we know as frequent statistics. For Bayesian statistics, probability is subjective measure of belief. So it's based on what you think is like what happened. And so in a lot of ways, fischerian, frequentist definition of probability ties in really well to sort of industrial production.
