The Fishing Sector Is Not Working, Is It?
Fishing is a strong part of their personal social identity, and there's been a move to them towards agriculture as an alternative livelihood. We're trying to switch out their fishing gear for gear which is more suitable, bu more sustainable and importantly, also legal. A ma geti mesh sine, a she lil bit, the mesh sizes on both the traps and the nets are seriously damaging the the fisheries in eweres wherewe're working. And a seaweed production, potentially. We haven't got into it yet, but it's on our radar.
