Medial Femoral Condyle Bone Grafting for Carpal Pathologies
Vascularized medial femoral condyle grafting fixation is most commonly used in the treatment of proximal scaphoid avascular necrosis and scaphoid nonunion. Free vascularized bone grafts, or VBG's, are often considered in the management of carpal bone nonunion. Various donor sites exist, including the distal radius, iliacrest, ribs, and femoral condyles. A relative contraindication for their use is in the setting of carpal bones without an intact cartilage in the shell or advanced carpal collapse with degenerative changes.
