i think we live in a world where, fortunately, people are not actively encouraged to discriminate based upon race or gender. That's not true for partisan identities. And i think the problem is that anger is actually pretty clearly harming democracy. These moments of debate and compromise are central to sustaining some kind of perticipatory democracy.
