The Importance of Being Watched by the State
I think most people, if not all people, perhaps knew that they were being watched and that their lives were being watched. But it totally depended who I spoke to, how much I bothered people. A lot of people said, well, you don't know what it was like. We grew up with this. It was like that we just accepted that as part of the way one lives one's life. Many people said it really had no consequence or no bearing on their lives.
