Siht: I think the risk associated with nuclear waste storage is sufficiently low to throw in on this economic hail mary. The price take for the development of this deep geological repository is pegged at 26 billion dollars over the next hundred and 50 years. And it promises 500 direct local jobs. Once upon a time, a number of mines operated here, but most of them have since closed. There's this pull between the desire to protect the environment in this area from any risk at all, even a remote one; and the desire to see it thrive economically.
