Legal historians still refer to it as the foundational case for defining misconduct in office. The law commission recently looked at all this, and it started its report with this 17 83 case. It was of er of an accountant, charles benbridge, who wasn't formally employed by the state. And he was accused of failing to disclose forty eight thousand pounds from the accounts of the paymaster general of the armed forces.
