The Human Shield Fatwa
13th century scholar considered the grandfather of fundamentalist legal jurisprudence in Islam. The fatwa is about life and the situation that if the enemy is advancing on you using prisoners as human shields, are you allowed to kill them? And the fatwa that came from across the Muslim world to the defenders of these cities was yes. You can kill them because they are already dead anyway. If you don't, the Mongols will kill them.
