In the mid-1630s China's economy was in a shambles. The main imperial court was hopelessly divided against itself. Rebels prowled the countryside, so bold as to attack and even capture entire cities of the central empire. And oh yeah, there's still those monchus of Hong Taiji licking their chops at the spoils just waiting to be plucked from the fertile lands south of the Great Wall. It's not looking so good for Great Ming... next time it's gonna just keep getting worse.
