16s-Rrna Sequencing: A New Approach to Microbiology
Carl Woes pioneered the use of sequencing to classify bacterial species. 16S-RRNA is the nucleic acid component of the 30S subunit, of pro-carriotic and archaic ribosomes. The genes encoding the ribosomal proteins in RRNA are highly conserved between different species of bacteria and archaea. To get your target niches bacterial genome, you can isolate the DNA from the bacteria, replicate the DNA and sequence it.
