The ethic of conscientious objecting has been very central to many aspects of British life. Tom Burns and Voy Ridgeway with the friends ambulance unit helped found Oxfam. Eric Baker was one of the people instrumental in setting up Amnesty International. There's a very real sense in which we can see the the ethic conscientious objectors threaded through the history of post-war British human rights and humanitarianism.
