The Roanoke Story

Roanoke was one of the first attempts to establish a permanent English settlement in North America. Rumours circulate that these colonists survived and assimilated with Native American communities. Virginia Dair, who is born in Roanoke, became this sort of symbol of whiteness in America. I think it's given rise to lots of ideas about the origins of white American identity.
