On the day of his release, Love Me Do was largely ignored by the London music press. There was just so much clamor for it, particularly in Liverpool and it got up to number 17 in the charts. It sort of happened despite the London record industry rather than because of them. A lot of producers and DJs and things would sent it and they just thought, the Beatles, oh, I don't like that name.
