The Confrontation of the British Empire and Colonialism

I think it is for the ideological reasons that the British Empire did more than any other Empire to modernize the world as we know it. It's no accident that the vast majority of Commonwealth countries are parliamentary democracies in some form not perfect but aspiring to that. And so I think the British Empire is seen as being the kind of Athens to America's Rome in that sense and the inspiration for Western soft power as it exists today which is why it is contested territory even almost a century after it's gone.
