How Do You Run a Cathedral?
In anglo saxon times, the bishop oversaw the running of a cathedral. The clergy who run the cathedral are the bishop's own staff of clergy. There can actually be some animosity between the bishop and the cathedral clergy. This has tended to subside in modern times, but as recently as about the 19 eighties, the bishop of lincoln was having difficulties with his cathedral clergy.
