The end of empire is extremely messy and is massively violent in the defeat of germany, japan and italy. But it remains violent down to the 19 sixties. So we're looking at a period of almost a century in which the struggle for global empire defines the nature of conflict. Our memory of the secob war been so spun and launded. Here in the uca an we talk about the battle of britain. It was the struggle for freedom. Its struggle for democracy. And i think that we need to reconfigure the way we look at the war.
