The Canadian Environmental Protection Act (SEPA) Reform Process

A major overhaul of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act or SEPA will finally be completed this year. The main chemicals law was last updated in 1999 and while some parliamentary committees have reviewed the law a couple times back in 2007, 2008. There's broad recognition from industry, NGOs, and even lawmakers across the different parties that SEPA does indeed need to be updated. In 2017, the House of Commons Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development issued a report to Parliament saying it was time to update SEPA.
